About Manpo Steps
Manpo Steps is made by Quantum Digital Plus Pty Ltd, a one-person studio in Australia. It began with an ordinary annoyance: the iPhone said one number, the Watch said another, the Health app a third, and every step-counter app on the store picked one of them and called it the truth.
What it is for
One honest number. The app shows the total Apple Health has for the day, the time it was read, and the arithmetic behind it: what the iPhone counted, what the Watch counted, the overlap Health removed. If the number changes after a sync, the app says so instead of pretending it never happened. The explanation is public, at why your steps differ.
Three rules
- Match Health. The count is Health's merged total, never a single device's guess.
- Say when. Every screen, widget and complication shows the time of its reading.
- Keep nothing. No account, no ads, no analytics. Your history lives on your phone and in your own iCloud. The privacy policy is short because there is little to describe.
The name
Manpo is short for manpo-kei, 万歩計, the "ten-thousand-step meter" sold in Japan in 1965 that gave the world the 10,000-step slogan. The app is named for the object, not the number. Its default goal is 8,000, in the band where the research levels off, and every study behind that is cited on what the research says.
Price
The honest number is free. Pro, which adds every face, a full year of history and a custom rest-day allowance, is a week, a year, or once. Everything is unlocked for the first seven days, and purchases are refundable through Apple.
